Comic challenge winner!!!

So at long last (sorry about the delay) I'm here to announce the winner of the Comic Challenge!!! It was a really tight vote this time.... only 4 votes separated 3rd from 1st!  That just tells us all how great the entries were.  So, drum roll please......

In Third Place, with 5 votes....

From Claire at Brightstar 109 we have a pendant and earring set. "BATMAN! Nanana ..BATMAN!" (that song is going to be stuck in my head all day!) Lovely Joker earrings and the Batman pendant could be worn together or separately....if you can snag them before her kids do!

In Second place, with 6 votes......

From Kat at Artistikat we have the "Magneto Pendant". This pendant features 2 very powerful magnets that are attracted to each other... even putting a piece of wood between them won't stop their magnetic powers! Simple and scientific!!

And our FIRST PLACE winner, with 8 votes, is .......

From Esme at SilverBlueberry we have a comic from farther east.... Kodama.

"A kodama (木魂?) is a spirit from Japanese folklore, which is believed to live in certain trees (similar to the Dryad of Greek myth).
Kodama appear in the animated film Princess Mononoke, in which they are portrayed as small, white humanoids with large, rattling heads and mask-like features, similar to bobbleheads.
My little kodama has a few rough peridots inside its head, so you can make the rattling sound."

Congratulations!!!  Esme.. it's up to you to give us the next challenge.... I'm so excited to see what you come up with!! Keep your eyes peeled folks....it'll be a good one!! It's really easy to subscribe to our blog, just enter your email into the box on the right side of your screen.

Official Team Challenge Rules….
To enter and vote you must meet the following requirements:
- Have an Etsy shop
- Be a member of the Aspiring Metalsmith team on Etsy
- Be able to post your photos to our Flickr pool without blocking them from download, so the blog master has access.
- Follow each challenge’s rules as to submission times, materials and/or techniques, or any other rule for that specific challenge.
- Make something NEW for the challenge….not something that you have in stock that fits the rules. These challenges are to push you to try new things, not just show off things you’ve already done.

We politely ask that if you do not meet these guidelines you do not vote either. These challenges are intended to be an internal, skill-pushing endeavor….not a popularity contest. We like to show off how well we’ve done, but really want our peers on the team to judge our technique and skill growth.

Ryan Quantz
of RyanQuantzStudio took the prize this time, with 22 votes....I think we can all agree his wood and silver ring is unique and very well executed!
Jason of HappyTortoiseDesigns came in second with 12 votes for his Industrial cuff.... I think the patina on this one was wonderful!

S. Michelle of SMB Studios "Come Play with Me" bracelet took third place this round with 6 votes. A very lovely piece that would be stolen out of my hubby's jewelry box and hidden in mine if it was at our house!

And the April winner is.....

Julie of Wabi Brook Studio!!!! Her amazing pendant Inspired by the work of Canadian artist Lawren Harris, one of the founding members of the Group of Seven. Her use of an agate slice to mimic the flowing lines of Harris' landscapes was awesome!!

Second place goes to Resurrection Silver's entry. She recreated one of the pretties in VanGogh's Sunflowers. An amazing 3-D cuff, all in brass and copper. It's just soooo shiney and touchable.

Julie will be thinking hard for the next day or so....then she'll challenge all of us to make something wonderful!! Keep checking back...if you dare accept the mission!

And the February Winner is...

First I want to congratulate everyone who entered. Really this is the best turn out we’ve ever had… Thank you, Esme, for putting a really great task in front of us. I really hope that as time goes on we will continue to have this much participation. We’ve got 304 members on the Etsy Team… I, personally, am very proud of the group we’ve all built, and would love to see every active member enter something in the next year…..okay, off my soap box and on to what you’ve all been waiting for…

And the winner is…Julie of jamauerer!! Her spinning “rattler” ring totally walked away with the votes. It looks a bit like a bee hive (or a cartoon hamburger) and has some wonderful movement. Julie constantly amazes me with her creative designs. Thankfully she also makes tutorials in this shop (jewelstutorials) so the rest of us can try to glean some of that innovation!

Second Place is Lilian of GirlLovesGlitter. Her spectacular bangle with 6 tubes and 12 tube set stones was in tight running for a while, and really blew away the rest of the competition. Such a sparkly pretty piece and a never ending combination of stone colors! This project really took my breath away….she’s only been playing with the torch for a few months and setting stones for less than that!

Third place was a 3 way tie… Lori of StonePeace, Clarity of Scrollwork Designs and Asa of AsaPDesigns all collected a few votes…. Considering the amazing competition (17 entries this time around!!) I think we’re all just happy to have placed among such great work!
